In the Samtgemeinde North Elm from the Lower Saxony district of Helmstedt, six communities have joined together to do their administrative business. The integrated municipality was established in 1970.

The coat of arms was approved on 18 August 1977 the county.

The most famous son of that country bar that forms the Municipality North Elm today, was the German Emperor Lothar, who reigned from 1125 to 1137 and in the historiography of the epithet " of Süpplingenburg " bears. He floats in honor of a crown above a crenellated tower, which represents the Süpplingenburg, but also the castle Warberg. Hammer and chisel with which the tower is busy, indicate the major mining here and the ear of the embossed features of agriculture character of the member municipalities. The Samtgemeinderat decided this coat of arms on June 14, 1977.
