The Northern Alliance - Munich Metropolitan Region is an informal association of eight municipalities in the counties of Freising and Munich, which form the spatial corridor between Munich city center and the northern Munich Airport. Among the member municipalities

History

The collaboration of eight local authorities is to prevent its origins in 1982, with the former objective Negative institutions in the member communities. Meanwhile, the Northern Alliance is an action alliance, which has rather an appreciation of the economic and habitat north of Munich to the destination.

For example, the Northern Alliance has cross-party opposition to the Munich Transrapid project.

Following the example of the Northern Alliance, a " Western Alliance" from six communities has been founded in 2011, located west of Munich.

Importance of local

Together, the eight municipalities have approximately 115,200 inhabitants and home to major international companies with their Germany or Europe Central (Microsoft, EADS, General Electric, Swiss Re, ProSiebenSat.1, Alliance, etc.). The strong economic space (highest economic power in Germany according to the study " Germany 2020 " by the Berlin Institute for World Population, 2004) benefits from the proximity to the Franz -Josef -Strauß International Airport as well as the strengths of the individual sectors that are represented in the Northern Alliance. It is characterized by a diverse mix of industries with a focus on IT, hightech, services, media, retail and logistics. Prime example is the media sector, which forms a well-known Munich media center in Ismaning and Unterföhring.

The main areas of employment are in the trade and transport sector and in the services sectors. In these two sectors over 55,000 people or 78 % of all workers are employed. In the manufacturing sector, 21% of workers are employed.

The joint marketing of the Municipalities as the Northern Alliance - Munich Metropolitan Region North refers to the fields of science and residential location. Here are the eight municipalities can refer among other things to several institutions of the Ludwig -Maximilians- University of Munich and the Technical University of Munich, the palace complex Oberschleißheim and various recreational, leisure, cultural and shopping opportunities.
