Nordanstig Municipality
Nordanstig is a municipality (in Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Gävleborg and the historical province of Hälsingland. The main town of the municipality is Bergsjö.
Passing through the municipality, the European Road 4 and the railway line Gävle - Sundsvall.
Geography
The municipality extends about 30 kilometers along the Baltic coast and follows the course of the river and its tributaries Harmångersån about 70 kilometers to the northwest into the interior.
Of the approximately 10 -mile-wide coastal plain the municipal area increases at a time being largely barren hills. The most western parts reach 500 meters above sea level and is wooded.
History
The name was first mentioned in 1358 and Nordanstig was name of the parish. The church today was created in 1974 by the merger of four smaller communities.
Economy
The economic life used to be marked by the forestry and wood processing industry. Even today, 7 % of the population work in agriculture and forestry ( realm cut 2%) and 30 % in industry following the forestry. Industrial sites are Gnarp Hassela and Strömsbruk.
