Nordea (Nordic Ideas) is a leading financial services group in Northern Europe and the Baltic States with activities within the following business areas: Retail Banking (Consumer), Corporate Finance ( companies and institutions) as well as asset management and life insurance. The largest shareholders are the Swedish state with 13.5 %, Sampo Group with 21.4% and Nordea Fonden with 3.9% (as of December 2012).

The Bank is one of the 28 major banks, which by the Financial Stability Board (FSB) as " systemically important financial institution" ( systemically important financial institution) were classified. Therefore it is subject to special monitoring and stringent requirements on the level of equity.

History

The foundation stone was laid by Nordea to MeritaNordbanken by the merger of previously independent Finnish Merita Bank and the Swedish Nordbanken 1997. In March 2000, a merger with the Danish Unibank A / S, a little later announced by the Norwegian Christiania Bank Nordea.

North banks

The northern banks were formed in 1986 through the merger of Sundsvallsbanken and Upland Banks. In 1990, the Post- och credit banks was purchased. The Nordea share is listed on the stock exchanges in Copenhagen, Helsinki and Stockholm.
