Nordic Council Music Prize

The Music Prize of the Nordic Council is the Nordic Council, a forum of the Nordic countries, awarded annually.

The award, whose administration is subject to the Nordic House in the Faroe Islands capital Tórshavn is awarded annually together with the film, literature and the nature and environment prize at the meeting of the Nordic Council in the fall. He puts the emphasis on the creation and pursuit of new music on a high artistic level. Every other year, the price is a work by a living composer in the other year so that a musician or ensemble is honored. With 350,000 Danish kroner ( 47,000 euros ) is the Music Prize as well as the other highly doped prices.

For the first time the prize was awarded in 1965 and was initially every third year will be awarded to a composer from the Nordic countries, but as early as 1968, the distance to the award ceremony shortened to two years. Since 1990 he is awarded annually. The autonomous region of Åland, Faroe Islands or Greenland may propose their own candidates since 1997.

The jury will be composed of one independent music experts from the five Nordic countries. If a proposal is submitted for any of the three autonomous areas, a representative of the corresponding region has the right to attend the jury.
