Nordic gold

Nordic gold is an alloy of 89% copper, 5% aluminum, 5 % zinc and 1 % tin; So it does not contain gold. It is one of the main components because of copper and zinc to the brass alloys, and is not magnetizable.

This alloy is used for the production of euro coins with denominations of 50, 20 and 10 euro cents and was previously in some countries as coin alloy in use. It was originally developed for the Swedish 10 - krone coin, of which also the name comes (Swedish: guld Nordiskt ). Important, fulfilled of Nordic gold design criteria were then:

  • Golden color of the alloy,
  • To run low tendency or discoloring,
  • Good formability for coinage,
  • High durability and wear resistance,
  • Low allergy potential.

In particular, since Nordic gold does not contain nickel, the risk of contact allergies is low.
