Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics

The NORDITA (Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics ) is a Institute for Theoretical Physics of the Scandinavian countries, based in Stockholm. It was founded in 1957 as the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Atomic Physics in Copenhagen ( at the suggestion of Niels Bohr), where it was closely connected with the Niels Bohr Institute. Since 2007, it has moved from Copenhagen to Stockholm, where it is supported by the Royal Institute of Technology ( KTH ) and Stockholm University. Seating is on the AlbaNova campus of Stockholm University ( Roslagstullsbacken 23). It is financed by Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland.

Professors at NORDITA are or were Ben Mottelson, Allan Roy Mackintosh, Paolo Di Vecchia, Axel Brandenburg, Christopher Pethick (Director 1989-1994 ), Gerald Brown (until 1985 ), Wilfried Buchmüller, Alan Luther. Director was to 1971 Christian Møller.

The NORDITA is primarily concerned with nuclear and elementary particle physics, statistical physics, solid state physics, biophysics, astrophysics.
