Nordic skiing at the 1994 Winter Olympics

In the XVII. 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer found 15 competitions held in Nordic skiing. Venues were the Birkebeiner Ski Stadium and the surrounding area ( alpine) and the Lysgårds ski jump ( ski jumping ).

The competition consisted of two parts. Was considered first of the 10 - km run in classic style. Two days later, the participants walked 15 km in free style, the launch took place in reverse order according to the rankings of the 10-km race.

4 × 10 km relay

In each case the first two runners completed their section in the classical style ( trail A), the other two each in free style ( Trail B).

The Norwegian cross-country team with superstar Bjørn Dæhlie was indeed extremely successful in the " home games " in Lillehammer. Ironically, in the prestigious relay race, the heavily favored Norwegians had however beaten the Italian Team: Silvio Fauner defeated Dæhlie sprint almost at the last minute.

Weißflog won ten years after his triumph at the Olympic normal hill Sarajevo 1984 Olympic singles gold again.

The team competition ended dramatically: The Japanese team led before the last jumper with huge lead over Germany. Conclusion Springer Masahiko Harada, who had reached 122 m in the first round, needed for the victory of Japan, a distance of only 105 m. However, after a completely misslungenem jump he landed with only 97.5 m, which Japan lost the seemingly secure gold medal at Germany.
