Nordin ben Salah

Nordin Ben Salah ( born May 18, 1972 in M'Tioua, Morocco; † 20 September 2004 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch boxing champion.

Career

Ben Salah began his career at the age of 15 years as a kick boxer. In the course of his successes, he was nicknamed Fighting Nordin. He was European champion in kickboxing in 1993 in Finland. After 1994 he also won the world title, he moved to the classic boxing.

In his first official fight on May 28, 1994 ben Salah won without much effort in the first round by KO against Hungarian Laszlo Jacobs. On 8 May 1999, he won the first world title in super-middleweight on the version of the WBU by a point victory against the Germans Norbert Nieroba. When, after the battle in the doping control some traces were found of ephedrine in his urine, he lost the title back immediately.

On 16 March 2002, he won then Magdeburg in the WBA Intercontinental title at super middleweight by a points victory over 12 rounds against Sidney Mxoli Msutu from South Africa. In March 2003, Ben Salah lost the title though after a knockout loss on the Argentinians Francisco Antonio Mora. In the rematch six months later in Erfurt but he won it back again.

After this victory ben Salah resigned from boxing. Of the 39 fights in his career, he chose 36 for himself, including 26 by knockout blow.

On the evening of September 20, 2004 Ben Salah was gunned down in broad daylight as he left his training hall. From a passing motorcycle fired several shots were fired at him. Ben Salah died a short time later in hospital from his injuries. He leaves behind a girlfriend and a son.
