Nordmaling Municipality

Nordmaling is a municipality (Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Västerbotten County and the counties of Västerbotten and Ångermanland. The main town of the municipality is Nordmaling.

Geography

The municipality extends about 30 km along the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia and the coast 50 kilometers into the interior. The coast, which is highly structured, are preceded by numerous smaller islands. The municipal area is dominated by the valleys of the Öreälvens and Lögdeälvens that form up to 40 meters deep ravines.

Nature

Near the village Aspeå a nature reserve located with many caves and rejection Moränenlöchern. Along the Lögdeälven lead the Vildmarksleden and Lögdeälvsleden. Along this 100 km trail, there are a range of accommodation and refuges. The Nature Reserve Storrosberget five kilometers north of Nordmanlig are many crevices and caves. In one of these caves, the buccaneers tjuv antes should have kept hidden.

Economy

The biggest employer is now the municipality itself industrial sites are Olofsfors ( Olofsfors AB) and Rundvik ( Masonite AB).

Attractions

  • The Church of Nordmaling was built in the 15th century and expanded to include a bell tower in the 18th century. In the grave chapel next to the church, the church museum is in the works by Klas Engman be shown.
  • History museum in the rectory in 1749
  • 2 km nordlwestlich of Nyåker lead three railway bridges from different eras over the river Öreälven. The second bridge with its 90 m high support arches was at its completion, the longest stone railway bridge in the world and since 1997 under monument protection. In Nyåker itself is a bridge museum.
