Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie

The Northwest German Philharmonic Orchestra is one of three North Rhine-Westphalian Symphony Orchestras. It has its headquarters in the East Westphalian city of Herford.

History

Founded as the Northwest German Philharmonic in 1946 in Bad Pyrmont by former musicians of the Linz Bruckner Orchestra of St. Florian and the Prague German Philharmonic. In 1950, the merger was completed with the same time resulting in Herford Symphony Orchestra. The new ensemble was first called Städtebund - Symphony, before the present name was adopted.

Sponsorship and Funding

The orchestra is funded by the State of North Rhine -Westphalia, a support organization of municipalities and local authorities in the region of East Westphalia -Lippe and the Regional Association of Westphalia -Lippe. Members of the association were the towns of Bad Salzuflen, frets, Detmold, Herford, Lemgo, Minden and Paderborn and the districts of Herford and lip. In addition, four other municipalities and a circle are supporting members. Three other circuits from East Westphalia-Lippe are grantors.

Since autumn 1992, the Northwest German Philharmonic Orchestra is supported by the " Philharmonic Society of East Westphalia -Lippe ." The Northwest German Philharmonic generated by the concerts and radio productions 23.5 % of their income itself In the orchestras in Germany the average is 13.4%.

Funding crisis in 2012

Activities

The main activity of the 78- piece orchestra is the East Westphalian space, but it also occurs over Germany and Europe as well with a total of about 120 concerts annually in appearance. Successful tours have made the Northwest German Philharmonic known in countries like Japan, Holland, Italy, France, Spain and the United States. To date, over 200 plates and CD recordings exist with the ensemble. Besides concerts, the orchestra has worked with a school concert and educational program in youth work.

Studio

Sample space and seating of the orchestra are located within the city park Schützenhof on the pin hill, where the Herford concerts are given.

Chief Conductor

In summer 2006, Toshiyuki Kamioka adopted at his own request after eight successful seasons as Music Director of the orchestra. By the end of the season 2008/2009 was chief conductor Andris Nelsons. From the season 2010/2011 is the 27- year-old American Eugene Tzigane, who was born in Tokyo and grew up in California, chief conductor. He conducted concerts in the 60th anniversary of the orchestra in October 2010 Don Juan by Richard Strauss, the Violin Concerto by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, with the soloist Philippe Quint, and the Symphony in D Minor by César Franck.
