History

Norheim is the oldest documented wine village on the Nahe. It was called 766 as " Narheim in pago Nahgowe " in the Lorsch Codex (Codex Laureshamensis ). The Frankish nobleman Adalger sold at that time located in its " Narheim " land for 2 pounds of silver to the Lorsch Abbey on the mountain road (see the certificate in 2007 from the Lorsch Codex ).

The property was exchanged 962 of Lorsch to St. Maximin in Trier. 1190 then came jurisdiction and possessions to the Lords of Bolanden the kingdom as a fief. Over the Rhine and the Count of Sponheim it came from 1440 for three centuries at the Sickinger on the boars castle. As the last representative died in 1768, the rule was as unclaimed fiefs back to the Palatinate back.

After the end of the Napoleonic wars and by the decisions of the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Norheim was Prussian and assigned to the upper office Kreuznach.

The Catholic parish church of the Exaltation to Norheim comes in parts ( tower) from the first half of the 13th century. From 1363 it was the monastery of St. Crucis incorporated in Mainz. After the Reformation to the year 1698 the church was awarded to the Protestant confession. Today's Gothic form of the ship she received in 1864, in 1911 the tower was increased by a foliated sound facility and provided with an acute, eight-sided helmet. The tower stands in the East and once formed the choir. The entrance was also broken through 1911.

Norheim had three water mills. The oldest was the Witt'sche mill which was first mentioned in 1471. It was an old German gear mill with water wheel unterschlächtigem. There was also cereal and ground oilseed according to Adam Karst ( 1838-1852 ). Since the mill spell mill was the Norheimer citizens were allowed only they can grind their grain. After the sale of the miller warrior 1833 the mill was shut down.

The second mill is the Stein mill ( since 1910 Kruger mill). It is located 20m below the Witt mill and was built in 1722 with baronial consent of the property as Sickinger mill. Since the Norheimer were banished to the Witt'sche mill, the then owner of stone had to look for its customers in Traisen and Hüffelsheim and buy grain on the Kreuznacher grain market and offer there as flour again. In the Kruger mill there was a corn mill with its own mill pond and an undershot Zuppingerrad. This was in use until its closure in 1975. Since 1995, the system is reactivated with a new wheel and produced by means of an asynchronous generator power. The expected annual output is 200,000 kWh.

The third mill is the Weidenmühle on the eastern outskirts. It was built in 1726 by Müller Matthias Schmitt. There was a mill owned by the concession of the Sickinger, was ground in the grain. The drive was about an undershot water wheel. After the beginning of the 19th century Witt'sche spell mill ceased operations, the Weidenmühle was the most important mill Norheim. It has ceased operations in 1950 after the death of the last miller Hans Brosius.
