Norman Bates (musician)

Norman Louis Bates ( born August 26, 1927 in Pocatello, Idaho) is an American jazz bassist. He played with Dave Brubeck.

Life and work

Norman Bates is the brother of bassist Bob Bates. He studied classical bass, played with Jimmy Dorsey in 1945 and Carmen Cavallaro 1947 is most remembered Noman Bates ' membership in the early formations of Dave Brubeck from 1948/49. ; later he took the place of his brother Bob in the Brubeck band and played from 1955 to 1958 in the band. Then he had his own trio in San Francisco. Except with Brubeck he took on plates with Wally Rose in 1955 and Paul Desmond.
