Norman Foster (director)

Norman Foster ( born December 13, 1903 in Richmond, Indiana, † July 7, 1976 in Santa Monica, California ) was an American film director, screenwriter and actor.

Life

Forman began his career in film as an actor and played from 1929 to the late 1930s in more than 40 productions. Previously, he had given his 1926 Broadway debut as an actor.

In 1936, he was with I Cover Chinatown his directorial debut and also played the lead role. From 1937 he was also active as a screenwriter. As of 1938, completely focused on his work as a director and screenwriter. As an actor, he only came back in the 1970s in appearance.

Until the mid- 1950s, he directed primarily feature films, then he turned to television. In the 1930s, he made ​​several films of Mr. Moto and Charlie Chan series. With Orson Welles he formed a lifelong friendship, whose roots can be found in the production of Pursued by agents. In the 1940s, Norman directed several films in Mexico. His documentary Navajo was nominated for Best Documentary Oscar at the Academy Awards in 1953.

In 1957 he was nominated for the staging of an episode of Letter to Loretta for the DGA Award.

In 1928 he married the actress Claudette Colbert. Their relationship held approximately seven years. His subsequent marriage to Sally Blane, who had also worked as an actress, however, kept her rest life.
