Norman Read

Norman Richard Read ( born August 13, 1931 in England; † 22 May 1994 Pirongia, Waikato, New Zealand) was a New Zealand track and field athlete and Olympic champion.

1953 emigrated from England to New Zealand Norman Read from. Three years later at the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956, he won gold for New Zealand in the 50 km walk in a time of 4:30:42,8 h in Rome in 1960, he finished 5th in the 20 km walk. Also In 1960 Read his best time over 50 km with 4:21:23 h

At the Commonwealth Games Go was only in 1966 added to the program. About 20 miles took 3rd place behind Read the British Ron Wallwork and Ray Middleton. In 4th place came Don Thompson.

Read Norman died at age 63 of a heart attack during a senior bicycle race.
