Norman Rossington

Norman Rossington ( born December 24, 1928 in Liverpool, England; † 21 May 1999 Manchester ) was a British actor.

Life

Rossington broke his schooling at the age of 14 years and tried in various professions and completed his military service in the Royal Air Force. Later he made a drama training at the Bristol Old Vic and then went on at the Theatre Royal. The mid-1950s he made with the Old Vic Company, a tour of the United States and also came here on Broadway in William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. In 1957 he played in the first three seasons of the British sitcom The Army Game. In the wildly popular series about the British military, he played the soldiers Cook; this should be leading the way for his future career, because he was usually set to soldiers roles. After Rossington had already occurred in various British film productions in smaller supporting roles, he got into the loose on the series The Army Game -based comedy film head up, chest out! a larger supporting role. This was the first feature film in carry -on ... film series, and subsequently he also played in the Carry-on films ... 41 degrees love and not so great, sweetie. In the 1960s, he had a small role in David Lean's Lawrence of Arabia, played in Yeah Yeah Yeah on the side of the Beatles as well as in trouble for two on the side of Elvis Presley. He has performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company and was in London's West End, among others, as Doolittle in My Fair Lady, to see Micawber in David Copperfield and Charlie Davenport in Annie Get Your Gun. From the beginning of the 1970s, his movie engagements were rare and he worked increasingly for British television.

Rossington played until November 1998 in London's West End in The Beauty and the Beast, but the commitment was forced to retire for health reasons. He died in May of the following year at the age of 70 years at a hospital in Manchester on the consequences of cancer. He was married twice, he finished his second marriage just two months before his death.
