Norman Uprichard

William Norman McCourt Uprichard ( born April 20, 1928 in Lurgan, Northern Ireland, † January 31, 2011 in Brighton ) was a Northern Irish football goalkeeper.

Norman Uprichard began his career at Glenavon and in 1948 came via an intermediate station at Lisburn Distillery FC for a transfer fee of £ 1,500 to Arsenal. At the top English club, he was only number 3 behind Ted Platt and George Swindin and therefore was never used.

Only after moving to Swindon Town, he was back to number 1 and even added in 2002 by Richard Mattick in his book Swindon Town Football Club 100 Greats in the list of 100 best Swindon player of all time. After three years at Swindon, he moved to Portsmouth. Here he made in seven years, almost 200 games.
