Norodom Ranariddh

Prince Norodom Ranariddh ( born January 2, 1944 in Phnom Penh ) is an Cambodian politician.

Life

Norodom Ranariddh is the second oldest son of former Cambodian King Norodom Sihanouk and a half-brother of King Norodom Sihamoni.

In the 1960s he studied public law in Aix -en- Provence and in 1974 received his doctorate in this subject. From February 1992 to October 2006 he was chairman of the FUNCINPEC party. From September 1993, when the monarchy was restored in Cambodia, he practiced - together with Hun Sen of the Cambodian People's Party, the Office of the Prime Minister from. In July 1997, he was urged by Hun Sen from his office.

This, however, his political career was not over, because in November 1998, he was elected president of the Cambodian National Assembly. From this office he resigned in March 2006 after the Cambodian People's Party had pushed through a new law under which applications Parliament only can happen with a simple rather than a two-thirds majority and thus was no longer necessary, the coalition of FUNCINPEC with the People's Party.
