Norra begravningsplatsen

Norra begravningsplatsen ( Northern Cemetery ) is a cemetery in Solna in Stockholm County. Prior to the inauguration in 1827 the area was part of the royal court Karlberg.

The cemetery is the only one in Sweden, which is not managed by the Church of Sweden, but of the Stockholm City Council. He has been expanded several times, especially in the 1860s to 1880s. For the oldest part of Carl -Gustaf Blom- Carlsson was responsible. Many architects were involved in the construction of them also Gunnar Asplund, Sigurd Lewerentz and Lars Israel Wahlman.

On the large cemetery there are many sculptures and ornate embellishments of, among others, Carl Milles and Carl Eldh. Many prominent Sweden rest there, including August Strindberg, Ingrid Bergman, Ulrich Salchow and Alfred Nobel and the three members of the injured polar expedition Salomon Andrée.
