The Norrström forms the main drainage of the Mälaren to the Baltic Sea. It connects the eastern part of Lake Mälaren, the Riddarfjaerden, Stockholms ström with, the westernmost part of the Baltic Sea Bay Saltsjön.

The Norrström runs north of Gamla stan, the old town of Stockholm. In Norrström are the two islands Strömsborg and Helgeandsholmen.
