Norsk biografisk leksikon

The Norsk biografisk leksikon (Norwegian biographical lexicon; shortened NBL ) is the most extensive biographical encyclopedia of Norway.

The first edition was published in the years 1921-1983 by the publisher Aschehoug. It contained 19 volumes with 5102 items. The second edition was published in ten volumes in the years 1999-2005 by the publisher Kunnskapsforlaget. The publisher has received financial support from the Fritt Ord institution and the Ministry of Culture in Norway.

In 2006 they started to digitize the second edition of the encyclopedia. The online edition was published in 2009, together with the Store Norske leksikon. The output contains nearly 5840 articles.
