Nort-sur-Erdre

Nort -sur -Erdre is a commune with 7970 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Loire -Atlantique in the Pays de la Loire.

Geography

Nort -sur -Erdre is located on the lower reaches of the river Erdre, in the Loire at Nantes has many lake-like widenings up to his mouth and thus offers a diverse underwater landscape. The river is navigable by ships and has about five kilometers down from Nort -sur -Erdre connection to the Canal de Nantes à Brest, on which a connection to the canal and river system Brittany is possible.

History

Saint Felix, the 16th Bishop of Nantes, renovated in the year 550, the unhealthy marshes north of the city, by raising the water level of the Erdre by about two meters by the construction of flux barriers and roads.
