North American Car of the Year

Car of the Year in North America and Truck of the Year in North America ( official: North American Car of the Year and North American Truck of the Year, in short: NACTOY ) is a vehicle award, which is awarded every year in early January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. For the first time the awards were presented in 1994.

Method

You can choose between different cars and trucks that are either completely new or have been substantially revised and should be on the market shortly after the award ceremony at the latest. A second prerequisite is a " calculated in paragraph " of more than 5,000 vehicles in the passenger car category and 2,000 vehicles in the truck category per year, to exclude individual pieces and small series.

Not more than 50 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada nominate in a first step of these vehicles for their favorites by each of them assigns 25 points per category. However, it may not be awarded a total of less than these 25 points, for a single vehicle not exceeding ten, and only a scoring with ten points each juror is permitted. An independent accounting firm determines the three most nominated vehicles and trucks and shares this in alphabetical order with. If there are several equal points, third place, lists all these vehicles.

In a second step, the journalists enter again from these vehicles points, the same accounting firm evaluates the ballots.

In this review, the journalists who work for magazines, television and radio, innovation, design, safety, handling and price. It is published on the evaluation of the international auto show in Detroit, where the award ceremony takes place.
