North American Catamaran Racing Association

NACRA (North American Catamaran Racing Association ) is a class of boat racing catamarans, which has developed in the U.S. and spread to Europe and Australia. Within the NACRA class there are different sizes and types, from the sailing school boat to race boat.

History

The first NACRAs were by Tom Roland in California, USA, developed and built. The first models were the Nacra 5.2 and 18SQ. There were revolutionary boats with " teardrop " hulls. Roland's ideas and design have had a huge impact on the modern multihulls. Today, many large multi-hull boats are built with this hull shape.

NACRA catamarans are produced at Nacra Australia in Brisbane, Australia, and Performance Catamarans Inc. in U.S. California.

The Nacra 17 catamaran is used at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio as a boat for the Mixed Multihull category.
