North Bay Centennials

The North Bay Centennials were a Canadian ice hockey team from North Bay, Ontario. The team played from 1982 to 2002 in one of the three highest Canadian Junior Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League ( OHL ).

History

The North Bay Centennials were founded in 1982 as a franchise of the Ontario Hockey League after the Niagara Falls Flyers of the Ontario Hockey Association, had been relocated from Niagara Falls, Ontario, North Bay, Ontario before. Previously it was not possible to obtain a new arena for their team to the new owners of the Flyers. The Centennials were named for the centenary of the railway line in North Bay. Your first success the team had. With reaching the final at the J. Ross Robertson Cup in 1987, where they were subject to the Oshawa Generals Two years later they lost against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. In the third attempt, North Bay won in the 1993/94 season the J. Ross Robertson Cup, after the finals the Detroit Junior Red Wings were defeated. As OHL champions, the team for the Memorial Cup, the championship of the Canadian Hockey League, where it finished fourth last place and thus qualified.

After the franchise import losses it was sold in 2002 to a group of U.S. investors led by Dick Garber. The new owners moved the team eventually to Saginaw, Michigan to where it participates since then under the name Saginaw Spirit at play operation of the OHL.
