North Bothnia Line

The Norrbotniabanan is a planned railway line for high-speed traffic in Sweden. It represents the northern extension of the existing Botniabanan that ends in Umeå.

The Norrbotniabanan leads from Umeå 270 km north to Luleå. In Luleå there is a connection to the iron ore railway ( Malmbanan ) over Kiruna to Narvik in Norway, as well as a few kilometers to the railway line floor - Haparanda to the Finnish border. The new, single-track line will be designed for a maximum speed of 250 km / hr. Thus, the travel time from Umeå to Luleå should speed up to 90 minutes; currently is the travel time to the Nordlandbahn that does not lead along the coast, but through the hinterland, four hours.

The planned costs amount to SEK 23 billion, equivalent to about 2.1 billion euros at the time of planning. Construction is currently planned for the year 2020 ( since 2007).
