North Chungcheong Province

Chungcheongbuk -do ( North Chungcheong ) is a province in the center of South Korea. It was created in 1896 by dividing the Chungcheong Province from the eastern parts. The provincial capital is Cheongju.

Geography

Chungcheongbuk -do is bordered clockwise by the provinces of Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon -do in the north, Gyeongsangbuk-do in the East, Jeollabuk-do Chungcheongnam-do in the south and the west. Chungcheongbuk -do South Korea is the only province without access to the sea. The area is mainly mountainous and is limited by the Noryong Mountains in the north and the Sobaek massif in the east.

Resources

Agricultural products of the province are mainly rice, beans and sweet potatoes, but local companies have specialized in Ginseng and Tobacco. The tobacco was 1912 in Virginia (USA) introduced.

Chungcheongbuk -do also has minerals in the northern part, particularly gold, iron, coal, steatite, fluorite, molybdenum and limestone. Silk weaving is still a weighty industry.

Attractions

The main tourist attraction of the province of the mountain Songni ( 1,058 m) in Sobaek massif. The area around the mountain is a national park. Beopjusa ( Popchusa ) is the oldest temple in Korea and is located in another national park near the mountain Worak.
