North Eifel

The northern Eifel region, the northern part of the Eifel, a low mountain range in North Rhine -Westphalia, Rhineland -Palatinate and the East Cantons consists of six sub- areas, namely

All aspects are part of the High Fens -Eifel.

Something special is the high moors of the High Fens. It was declared by UNESCO as world cultural heritage. The Eifel Lakes with the second largest reservoir in Germany, the Rurtalsperre, is located in the northern Eifel.

To Nordeifel also include:

  • The Eifel National Park,
  • The rear Monschauer country
  • The Kermeter,
  • The Hurtgenwald,
  • The Zitterwald and
  • Foothills of the North Eifel, which merge in the Jülich- Zuelpicher flare as the areas around Euskirchen, Zuelpich and Düren. This part foothills form the transition into Voreifel country.
