North Pacific Gyre

The North Pacific eddy is a marine drift current in the north of the Pacific Ocean. Due to the large accumulation of plastic waste within the vortex, the North Pacific eddy is repeatedly cited as an example for the pollution of the seas by man.

The vortex is one of the five largest of its kind on the earth and turns, favored by the Coriolis force in a clockwise direction. He covered thereby virtually the entire Pacific in the Northern Hemisphere. Made and powered the North Pacific eddy is determined by the California current in the East, the North Equatorial Current in the south, the Kuroshio current in the west and the North Pacific current in the north.
