North Royalton, Royalton until 1881, is a city on the southern edge of the Cuyahoga County in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is located almost 21 kilometers south of Cleveland, on the edge of the associated belt suburb, close to the intersection point of Interstates 71 and 80, the city is 21.29 square miles ( 55.12 km ²) in size and had (2000) 28 648 inhabitants, of which 96.2 % white.
The metropolitan area has the shape of a rectangle with an area of approximately 4.5 miles ( 6.84 km ) in a west-east direction and five miles ( 8.045 km ) in a north-south direction. It corresponds to the western part of a once five on five -mile townships, which had been marked out in the course of surveying the Connecticut Western Reserve. Neighboring municipalities are Strongsville in the West, Parma in the north and Broadview Heights in the east. In the south of Medina County borders.
The city is located on a hill between the Rocky River and the Cuyahoga; it is 365 meters above sea level and 191 meters above sea level on Lake Erie, the highest village in southern Cuyahoga County.
North Royalton was initially founded in 1818 as the Royalton Township. The settlement was named after the place of origin of the first arrivals, Royalton in the U.S. state of Vermont. To avoid confusion with other places of the same name, it was in 1881 but was renamed North Royalton. After the eastern part of the township was incorporated in 1926 by Broadview Heights, the remainder of the township 1927, also from the Village.
The area remained rural in character until well into the 20th century; the local farmers operated mainly dairy industry. 1940 was one of North Royalton 2,559 inhabitants. It was not until the construction of the interstates in the 1950s and 1960s was the suburbanization Cleveland's far progress and the population grow much of ( 1960) about 9,290 (1980 ) 17,705 to (2000) 28 648 inhabitants. 1961 North Royalton became a town. The largest local employer is the public service; Industry and trade limited to small businesses.
