North Sea Beach Marathon

The North Sea Beach Marathon is a marathon in the Danish West Jutland, which takes place at the beginning of July since 2000. He is one of the few running events around the world that are run exclusively on sand. Besides the classical route 42.195 km there is a half marathon and runs about 5 and 10 km.

The course is a point - to-point course on the beach between Hvide Sande and Vejer beach, being run in even years to the north and to the south in odd. The half marathon starts in Nymindegab and each has the same goal as the marathon. The shorter runs are turning point routes starting at the destination of the marathon and end.

Running on the beach is pretty exhausting. Especially against Hvide Sande, the sand has a consistency that is reminiscent of deep snow, so you have to expect like a mountain marathon with a similar time surcharge. Accordingly, the time limit for the marathon runner is seven hours.
