History

The North Swedish cold blood goes back to the ancient Scandinavian country races and is closely related to the Norwegian Dölepferd. These landraces originate, like most European breeds, from the common forest horses. By the end of the 18th century there were no registered breed and the horses were called northern Sweden, were a mixture of various imported breeds; even thoroughbreds and lighter breeds were crossed. Nevertheless, the North Swede was shortly before dying out because it was too easy for farming. The increased introgression easier cold -blooded breeds should remedy this, but it took time. Several veterinarians founded about a breed club to prevent the extinction of the breed. The aim of the club was a new, native breed of horse with the north of Sweden, who were left, and they improved with the Norwegian Dölepferden. In 1890 there were only intersections with Dölepferden.

Pure breeding work began during the 19th century. The award rules there were for the first time a race description with the name " Nordsvenska Hästen " (Swedish: North Swedish Horse), which is called in the German North Swedish cold blood. By breeding work in 1903, founded the stud cheeks in the province of Jämtland, the North Swedish Draft horse has developed a compact, very active horse with remarkable traction performance. The breeding of this breed in Wangen was discontinued in 1996. Thus, the North Swedish Draft horse developed from an old country horse to a horse farming, making it larger and heavier than the northern Swede.

1923 a big agricultural meeting in Gothenburg was held in which some local farmers have demonstrated their North Swedish cold-blooded animals, but all the horses looked different and had completely different characters; so they had nothing in common. Since we began to plan a kingdom Comprehensive breed club for the North Swedish cold blood, should the breeding uniform and more effective. They gathered horse breeders and horse owners all over Sweden in August 1923 in Östersund and founded the association " Föreningen Nordsvenska Hästen ", ie the association for North Swedish cold-blooded animals.

In 1964, the breed was divided into two types: in the North Swedish workhorse and easier and quicker to type Traber, the North Swedish Trotter.
