North West (South African province)

Northwest ( English: Northwest, Afrikaans: Noordwes, Setswana: Bokone Bophirim ) is a province of South Africa, bordering Botswana. It has about 3.5 million inhabitants. Parts of the Kalahari Desert are located in the North-West Province. It was formed in 1994 when the Cape Province was divided. Parts of the former Transvaal province and the homelands Bophuthatswana were incorporated. The province is relatively flat.

  • Modiri Molema Ngaka with communities Ratlou, Tswaing, Mafikeng, Ditsobotla and Ramotshere Moiloa
  • Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati with communities Kagisano, Naledi, Mamusa, Greater Taung, Molopo and Lekwa - Teemane
  • Dr Kenneth Kaunda with the communities Ventersdorp, Tlokwe, Matlosana, Maquassi Hills and Merafong City

A big attraction of the province is the entertainment center of Sun City in the immediate vicinity of the Pilanesberg.
