Northampton County (North Carolina)

Northampton County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Jackson, who was named after the seventh President of the United States, Andrew Jackson, named.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern North Carolina, bounded on the north Virginia and has an area of ​​1426 square kilometers, of which 37 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hertford County, Bertie County, Halifax County and Warren County.

Northampton County is divided into seven townships: Gaston, Gary Castle, Jackson, Rich Square, Seaboard and Conway.

History

Northampton County was formed in 1741 from parts of Bertie County. It was named after James Crompton, 5th Earl of Northampton.
