Northern Great Plain

The Northern Great Plain ( ungar: Észak - Alfold ) is one of seven Hungarian regions at NUTS 2-based (code: HU32 ). The region consists of the three counties

  • Hajdú -Bihar
  • Jasz -Nagykun -Szolnok and
  • Szabolcs -Szatmár -Bereg.

The biggest cities of the Northern Great Plain are Debrecen, Nyíregyháza and Szolnok. The region has 1,492,502 inhabitants and with its 17,749 km ² according to the Southern Great Plain is the second largest Hungarian region.

Location

The region is located in the eastern part of Hungary, bordering the states of Ukraine and Romania. The three neighboring regions are Northern Hungary in the north, the west and the Central Hungary Southern Great Plain in the south.
