Northern hopping mouse

The Northern Hüpfmaus ( Notomys Aquilo ) in a rodent from the genus of Australian Hüpfmäuse ( Notomys ). Its distribution area covers three mountain ranges around the Gulf of Carpentaria in northern Queensland, northern Arnhem Land and Groote Eylandt in the northern Northern Territory and possibly a part of Cape York. On the wasteland they inhabited all sorts of types of vegetation that grow on sandy soils.

The back is light brown, the underside white. The long tail is sand color. The ears are relatively short. The flesh-colored feet are long and narrow. They have a small throat pouch. The head-body length is 100 to 115 mm, tail length 140-175 mm, the Hinterfußlänge 34 to 40 mm and the ears of length 18 to 22 mm. It reaches a weight of 25 to 50 g, the females have four teats.

Although they will not be caught very frequently, their presence is easy to spot by the distance of Hinterfußabdrücke from 20 to 60 cm. Your cave in deep sand can be seen on a mound of earth of 40 cm height, which lies at a distance of 2 meters from the entrance of the cave. On Groote Eylandt most boys are born during the rainy season in May, but births can occur from February to September. A litter can consist of one to five boys.
