The Northern State University ( NSU ) is a four-year, public university located in Aberdeen, South Dakota (USA). It is subject to the South Dakota Board of Regents. The NSU offers 38 major and 42 minor subjects at the university. In addition, six associate degree, eight pre-employment and nine master's degree programs are offered.

Sports

The Northern State Wolves will compete in 16 inter-university sports. The sports program was launched in 1902 with basketball ( men) and athletics. American Football in 1903, baseball in 1904. Northern State University is a two-time national champion in the women's basketball (1992 and 1994). Currently Northern State offers the following sports to: cross-country race for men and women, golf for women and men, basketball for men and women, indoor and outdoor track and field for men and women, women's soccer, fast pitch softball for women, Volleyball, Football, Wrestling and baseball. Since 2007, Northern also offers women's tennis and women's swimming.

Northern State is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference ( NSIC ), which is composed of 14 universities in five states: Bemidji State University ( MN) Concordia University, St. Paul ( MN), University of Minnesota- Crookston, Minnesota State University, Upper Iowa University Wayne State College ( NE), Winona State University ( MN), University of Minnesota Duluth, Augustana College, Minnesota State University, Mankato and St. Cloud State University. Northern State is since 1978 a member of the Conference, and demonstrates in the number of enrollments of the 14 universities, the penultimate place. In the 90s, all members of the NSIC were, after several years while a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics ( NAIA ) to the exclusive members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA Division II).

The football team plays in the NSU Swisher Field, a stadium with 6,000 seats in the south of Aberdeen. There also athletics tournaments. Swisher Field is the second largest football stadium in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference ( NSIC ) to the Bismarck Community Bowl the University of Mary in North Dakota. The softball team is running in the campus near Moccasin Creek Softball Complex. The baseball team plays at Fossum Field, which is located in the northeast of the city. The football field and the tennis courts are located across from Jerde Hall on the east side of the campus. The Barnett Center is used by all sports teams in the off season for their training. The equipment consists among other things, a weight room, a gym, a swimming pool, a racquetball court, a space for Wrestling, a training room, a batting cage for baseball and several classrooms, offices and locker rooms. The Barnett Center also houses the wax Arena, which is the home for basketball, wrestling, volleyball and track and field teams with 8,000 seats. The wax Arena has twice the capacity of the largest arena in the NSIC.

The NSU Sport is strongly supported by both students as well as from the community. Men's and women's basketball games and football games are to cinema constant numbers in the national top 10 of the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball The team had in the season 2005/ 2006, the highest national audience number.

The head coach of the Wolves, Don Meyer, Basktballmannschaften trained for over 30 years and has won several awards during that time. He reached 700 wins faster than any other coach in the history of college basketball. He began his career with the head coach NCAA Division III at Hamline University in Minnesota, where he received a score of 37:41 aufstellte in three years, before he moved to the David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. In his 24 years as a trainer at the David Lipscomb University Meyer gave a score of 665:179 (including the national championship of 1986). Campus

The South of Aberdeen located campus includes 0.29 km ². The oldest buildings are centrally located on campus. Since then, the campus has expanded outward. The building in which the place of lectures, are the Technology Center, the Johnson Fine Arts Center (home of the Faculty of Fine Arts ) and the Mewaldt -Jensen building with 16 classrooms, 13 laboratories and 60 offices for the departments of mathematics, science and economy.

Built in 1960 Student Center houses the canteen, the university bookstore and post office, all student -related services as well as several conference rooms. The Beulah Williams Library has been enhanced by modifications to three times the size, it can now accommodate 400 students and has a number of group study rooms, multimedia courses and a vast collection of books.

The 11,900 square-meter sports complex, the Joseph H. Barnett Building, was completed in 1987 and is home to all the coaches offices and several classrooms. The wax Arena is named after the basketball coach Bob wax, which has in its 30 -year career ( 1955-1985 ) 532 games won.
