Norwegian National Opera and Ballet

Den Norske Opera & Ballet (Norwegian Opera & Ballet ), headquartered in Oslo is the largest music theater in Norway and the only Norwegian institution of its kind that deals exclusively professional artists.

The opera will be organized as a corporation, which the Norwegian Opera Fund belongs to 90 % of the Norwegian government and 10%. Two years after the founding of this company went in 1959 in rented premises of the former Folketeatret (People's Theatre), the first performances on the stage. First director of the house was 1958-1960 the famous soprano Kirsten Flagstad.

The activities of the corporation are divided into seven program areas:

  • Opera
  • Ballet
  • Concert
  • Education and training
  • Development and creation
  • Tour and Empire Opera / National resource and competence center
  • Foreign round

A new opera house was opened on 12 April 2008 at Oslo harbor, see the Oslo Opera House.

The Den Norske Opera & Ballet won jointly with the bookmark Salbke the European Prize for Urban Public Space 2010.
