The parliamentary election in Norway 2005 took place on 12 September 2005. It was the election of the 59th Storting.

Good 3.4 million voters were called upon to decide on the composition of the 169 seats in parliament.

In some provinces the polling stations opened on 11 of September. Simultaneously with the Stortingswahl was the vote held for the Parliament of the seeds. Entitled to vote for the election of the Sami Parliament were 12,537 people.

Election result

While the government parties Kristelig Folkeparti and Høyre suffered massive losses, laid Workers' Party and the Progressive Party as well significantly. The government Bondevik II gave way to a red-green coalition of Social Democrats, Socialists and the Centre Party. Aside from the collection governments during and immediately after the Second World War, Jens Stoltenberg II Government is the first coalition government of the Social Democratic Prime Minister ever.
