Norwegian Red Cross

The Norwegian Red Cross, Norwegian Norges Røde Kors, is a mainly based on the work of volunteers aid organization that is a national Red Cross society of Norway a part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Organization

The Norwegian Red Cross is divided into 446 local departments and 19 regional offices. The headquarters of the organization is located in Oslo. The highest authority is the General Assembly, which meets every three years. The CEO is the currently existing Management Board of 13 members, representative of the different areas as well as a representative of the paid staff members. Activities

The Norwegian Red Cross has nationally over four Red Cross centers for social activities as well as a central warehouse for Disaster Reduction. It is active at national level, particularly in the fields of civil protection, emergency services, blood transfusion services, dissemination of international humanitarian law as well as the width of first aid training. Other fields of activity are the psychological care in the field of crisis intervention, a visit and care services for the elderly, sick and needy people and prisoners, as well as social programs for the integration of refugees and migrants and to care for children and adolescents. The organization is in addition with various campaigns against prejudice, racism and violence and organized nightly patrols to violence and crime prevention.

In the international sphere, the Norwegian Red Cross, the most active National Societies among the world. It cooperates in various forms with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC ) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and is in around 60 countries with support programs active. The total expenditure for international activities in 2000 amounted to around 71 million Swiss francs, of which accounted for approximately 40 million Swiss Francs to cooperation with the ICRC and about 22 million Swiss francs in cooperation with the Federation. About nine million Swiss francs were in bilateral aid projects. Focus of the work of the Norwegian Red Cross abroad are the creation and support of other national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, disaster relief and preparedness, as well as programs for the prevention of immune deficiency disease AIDS and to care for AIDS patients and HIV -infected people.
