Nösnerland

The Nösnerland (also Nösnergau ) is a historical region in northern Transylvania adjacent to the Reener Ländchen. It is the northern foothills of the crown land between the rivers Maros and Bistrita. The main town of the area was the city of Bistrita. Until 1944, the Nösnerland was mostly inhabited by the Saxons, but these were evacuated with the withdrawal of the German army and fled to Austria and West Germany. Today, the Nösnerland is part of the circle Bistrita-Nasaud and has a predominantly Romanian population.
