Note verbale

The diplomatic note or note verbale is a form of exchange of letters between the diplomatic missions in the receiving State and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the receiving State. Since usually a diplomatic note from the opposite side is reciprocated, is also spoken by an exchange of notes. Through the form of an Exchange also legally binding international agreements can be concluded.

Such a note is always written in the third person and begins with the closing formula, "The ... Embassy presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ... ".

At the end of the note is again finished with a Ehrerbietungsformel: " The Embassy avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs again its highest consideration. "
