Nothing but the Beat is the fifth studio album by French DJ David Guetta and also the title of a published end of 2011 film about the DJ. It was released on 26 August 2011 of the labels EMI France and Virgin Records. On September 7, 2012, the accompanying EP Nothing but the Beat 2.0 was released and on December 7, Nothing but the Beat Ultimate version, which includes all the songs from the two albums.

History

When David Guetta was asked in January 2011 after his fifth album, he said that it will be released in September. In addition, he said that his new sound of rock bands like Coldplay and Kings of Leon was inspired. On 25 March 2011 Guetta gave his first interview about his upcoming fifth album. There should be songs with earlier features such as Akon and will.i.am as well as several new ones. Among the featured songs on the album was Little Bad Girl with Ludacris and Taio Cruz. Another song from the album was Where Them Girls At by Flo Rida and Nicki Minaj. Where Them Girls At appeared worldwide as the first single from the album on 2 May 2011, after an unfinished version was leaked online. The song debuted at once anywhere in the charts in Germany at No. 5, where he later received gold status. On July 20 the video for Where Them Girls At was released.

On June 27, appeared in Germany the song Little Bad Girl. The first digital promo single Titanium with Sia appeared on August 5. The second promotional single was released Lunar ( with Afrojack ) on August 15. Night of Your Life with Jennifer Hudson appeared as the third promotional single on August 22. The next official single, the song Without You, which debuted already in the release of the album entered the German charts appeared, along with Usher on 27 September. In the U.S., the song Guetta secured the highest placing on the Hot 100 with position 4 The video was released on October 14. After December 9 Titanium was released worldwide as a fourth single, he presented on 17 December for the first time excerpts of the music video before, which appeared in the trade five days later. The fifth single Turn Me On managed in the last week of December the leap into the top 100 in the download charts. The first instrumental single The Alphabeat was published on 23 March 2012.

When you enter the German album charts, the album just landed at No. 2, where it was able to hold also in the second week. Only in the third week, it supplanted the Red Hot Chili Peppers with I'm with You from the top. On iTunes, it was the third best selling album of 2011, behind 21 and Doo - Wops & Hooligans.

At the 2012 Grammy Awards Guetta was nominated in the category of Best Dance Recording with Sunshine and Best Dance-/Electronica-Album with his album.

Critical reception

The album was rated very mixed. It has often been praised, however, have been criticized - especially because the first CD to be highly adapted to the mainstream.

The page laut.de forgave and described the album as a Trojan Horse, stupid and wooden, but practical.

The Journal mbeat awarded 80 out of 100 points: " Guetta DJ is more than just good humor ."

The page Plattentests.de wrote: "Whoever finds himself there, has etching cosmos the time of his life, all others will receive another confirmation that double albums never suck something."

The style of the Electronic CD was also often compared to Daft Punk and Deadmau5, but it was largely absorbed better than CD 1 because Guetta tries to return to his musical roots: the club music and not the dance-pop. "I want to educate people a bit, because after all I do not see myself primarily as a pop star, but actually come from the underground house scene in Paris," Guetta said in an interview on the second CD.

Film

In addition to the album celebrated on 17 September 2011, the same film Nothing but the Beat by Huse Monfaradi in the Parisian theater Rex its world premiere. He is a documentary by David Guetta's life and his rise from unknown house DJ for the prominent music producer and DJ. On March 22, 2012, the film was released for free on iTunes and shot to the top of the podcast charts in countries such as the USA, Germany, UK and France.

On September 7, 2012 was published in Germany EP Nothing but the Beat 2.0. It contains new songs, many songs of the studio album Nothing but the Beat. The first single, along with Sia Furler is, She Wolf ( Falling to Pieces). The single was released on 24 August 2012. A second single was released on November 16, 2012 Just One Last Time.

On 7 December 2012, the definitive version of the album was released in Germany in the form of Nothing but the Beat Ultimate, which contains all the songs from the original album and all that were only published with Nothing but the Beat 2.0, the album secured a week after publication number one in the German iTunes charts and helped Nothing but the Beat in Switzerland after 69 weeks in the charts back to the top position.
