Notker Physicus

Notker II ( approximately 905 *, † November 12 975 in St. Gallen) was a Benedictine monk. To distinguish it also bears the nickname Medicus, Physicus or the doctor and Piperisgranum or peppercorn.

He was, according to tradition, a famous physician and painter of the Benedictine monastery in St. Gallen. He decorated the local monastery church and several manuscripts with paintings, wrote several Latin verses and was due to his knowledge of pharmacology at the court of Emperor Otto I in particular reputation.

He was known for the particularly strict interpretation of the rules of the order of Benedict, earning him the nickname " peppercorn " earned.

He was beatified in 1512 by Pope Julius II, his feast is September 17 or December 17.
