The Notre Dame Stadium is a stadium on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, north of the city of South Bend, Indiana. It was opened in 1930 and serves primarily as a venue for the football games of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the make as independents in the NCAA their game plan itself.

History

The stadium was opened in 1930 to replace the old stadium Cartier Field. The total construction cost amounted to $ 750,000. The original seating capacity was 54,000. Knute Rockne played a key role in the stadium design, and held the space between the playing surface and bleachers at a minimum. The stadium was the Michigan reproduced on a smaller scale stage. Over the years, the spectator capacity was continuously increased to 59 075. 1997 21.000 new seats were built and increased the seating capacity to the current 80,795. The playing surface was natural grass since time immemorial.
