Notte

The Notte is a left tributary of the river Dahme in the counties of Teltow -Flaming and Dahme -Spreewald in Brandenburg ( Germany ). It rises south of Sperenberg and ends at km 8.24 in the Dahme- waterway below the lock New Mill in King Wusterhausen.

The Notte flow was the first long, navigable man-made waterway in the Mark Brandenburg. His first expansion with locks is dated to the reign of the Elector Joachim II 1568. 1856-1864 has been extensively improved by a Meliorationsverband to 25 km between the Mellensee and its confluence with King Wusterhausen the waterway.

Once removed from the beginning with barrages Notte was, as was the common practice called channelized Notte. It is erroneously become a Nottekanal. The concept of channeling corresponds to the congestion control today. Even the Prussian Water Act lists the Notte among the natural and not artificial watercourses.

The canalised Notte (Nt) is navigable and has three locks, one at the outlet of Mellensees, one just before and one in the middle of the forest king Wusterhausen. Since the lock at King Wusterhausen is only 21 m long, the Notte can no longer be navigated by cargo ships today. One kilometer route mouth among the so-called other inland waterways of the federal government to the jurisdiction of the Water and Shipping Authority Berlin.

At the lock opens from the right of the center forest Galluner channel has its own lock in the Notte one. This channel of Motzer lake is accessible. In Ragow, right in front of the federal motorway 13 Berliner Ring - Dresden, joins from the left of the non- navigable Zülowkanal from Rangsdorfer See her one. Between the king Wustershausen and the Dahme station the Notte is expanded to inland port.

The canalised Notte used to have a significant impact on the supply of Berlin in agricultural products and building materials. So was the transport of the Sperenberger gypsum stones, but also the products of numerous brickyards and gravel pits on the waterway. Through the expansion of the railway network ( particularly the Mittenwald private railways KMTE and NME ) decreased the importance of the Notte. Due to the influences of the Second World War and shifting problems with bridges and locks came the commercial shipping, with the exception of the port Kingswells, to a complete standstill. Today ( as of 2004), the aim is at least to improve the tourist use.
