Nottwil

Nottwil ( schweizerdt.: = Nottu ) is a municipality in the constituency Sursee the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland.

Geography

The municipality is located on the western shore of Lake Sempach Sempach and between Sursee. It not only covers the main settlement, consisting of the upper village and the underlying sub- village on Lake Sempach, numerous widely scattered hamlets and groups of houses. Grown together with the village, the hamlet Oberei are ( 549 m asl ) and egg ( 528 m asl ). West of the village is Buel (also written Buhl, 587 m asl ). Lake Sempach southeast of Nottwil village you will find the districts Meienbach (508 m asl ) and Eggerswil (517 m asl ).

Nottwil borders Buttisholz, New Church, Oberkirch and Ruswil.

Population

In the second half of the 19th century, the population decreased due to the migration to the industrial centers of massive ( 1850-1900: -23.4 %). In the first decade of the 20th century it grew significantly ( from 1900 to 1910: 15.5 %) - then to 1970 steadily but slowly. Since then, the population is increasing rapidly.

Languages

The population used as everyday language, a high- Alemannic dialect. At the last census in 2000 gave 92.77 % German, 1.45% Italian, and 1.30% of Albanian as their main language.

Religions - faiths

Previously, all the inhabitants were members of the Roman Catholic Church. By leaving the church and immigration from other regions in Switzerland and abroad, this has changed. Today ( as of 2000) looks the religious composition as follows. There are 76.40 % Roman Catholic, 11.52 % Protestant Reformed and 0.86% Orthodox Christians. In addition, one finds 5.56% and 2.05 % non-religious Muslims. The Muslims are Albanian, Turkish and the Kurdish nationality.

Origin - Nationality

Of the 2'975 inhabitants in late 2006 were 2,680 Swiss and 295 (9.9% ) are foreigners. At the last census, 87.81 % were Swiss nationals. The largest immigrant groups come from Serbia - Montenegro, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, the Netherlands and Macedonia.

Traffic

Nottwil lies on the railway line Olten- Lucerne and has its own stop. In addition, the bus lines connect Sursee - Buttisholz - Wolhusen hospital and some breakfast and evening courses of the post bus line Luzern- New Church, which run from and to Nottwil railway station, the town and the surrounding area. History

The area was inhabited early. Testify Neolithic lake dwellings, the remains of Roman buildings and a found in Iflikon Roman bronze tripod. It is first mentioned historically Notewile in land register of the monastery of Einsiedeln 1217/22. First ruled a noble family, the lords of Nottwil, the community in the name of the Lords of Gösgen in the modern canton of Solothurn. Soon after, the men of Tannenfels Meier took over the duties on behalf of the monastery pin Beromunster. The community was until 1798 a part of the Eiamts, which was a part of the Michel Office. In 1348 Catarina sold by Wessenberg that Burkhard II widow of Sursee and Tannenfels, their rights to the German Teutonic Knights. Because of the partisanship of the Order of the Habsburg Castle Tannenfels was destroyed by the people of Lucerne in 1386. The community came as part of the Michel Office in 1415 under the rule of Lucerne. It participated in 1799 in the short-term insurgency against the new French gentlemen, the so-called beetle war. From 1798 to 1803 it belonged to the district of Sempach, since the District Sursee.

Others

In Nottwil stand in a 1990 built their own settlement, the Swiss Paraplegic Centre and the training center of the Swiss Red Cross. In addition, the " Guido A. Zäch Institute for Clinical Research " was opened on 1 October 2005. The Swiss Paraplegics Association is located in Nottwil.

Since 2009 Nottwil connects with the German city of Schwaigern (Baden- Württemberg) is a town twinning.
