Nova Gradiška

Nova Gradiška ( German New Gradischka or Neugradiska, formerly Friedrichsdorf, Hungarian Újgradiska ) is a small town in eastern Croatia with 14,229 inhabitants ( 2011 census ), situated about ten kilometers north of the Sava River. It was founded in 1748 as a soldier settlement of border garrison No. 8. The boundary settlement initially called, after the first regimental commander Friedrich Schmidt, Friedrichsdorf. In 1750 the settlement was renamed " Nova Gradiska ". The city has evolved from a military garrison very quickly becoming one of sericulture and later at a craft and trade center. It has a baroque town center and also carries the title of youngest city in Croatia. The city's name refers to the early modern fortress Stara Gradiška (Alt - Gradiška ), about 20 kilometers south-west, close to the north bank of the Sava at the border crossing to Bosnia and Herzegovina located. Opposite is the town Gradiška.

Nova Gradiška was one of the first electrified towns in Croatia. The export-oriented enterprises in the city include the furniture industry, the products of which the brand Stjepan Sekulic are sold in many European countries.
