Novalles

Novalles is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Novalles is located on 571 m above sea level. Level, 6 km north- north-west of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The farming village extends on a terrace at the foot of the Jura above the valley of the Arnon.

The area of ​​2.1 km ² large municipality area includes a small section of the Jura south slope. The area extends from the river of Arnon northward on the terrace of Novalles and the densely wooded steep slope (La Côte ) Chasseron the chain up to the 1,060 m with u. M. the highest point of the municipality is reached. From the municipality surface 1997 4 % came from settlements, 49 % of forest and shrubs, 46 % to agriculture and slightly less than 1% was unproductive land.

To Novalles include some isolated farms of the Jura foothills. The neighboring communities of Novalles are in the south Giez, in Westel Vugelles -La Mothe, Bullet in the north, northeast and southeast Grandevent Fontaines- sur -Grandson.

Population

With 99 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Novalles one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 92.9% inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 5.1 % and 2.0 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Novalles amounted in 1900 to 117 inhabitants but thereafter until 1980 decreased to 68 inhabitants. Especially in recent years, however, a slight increase in population was recorded again.

Economy

Novalles still lives mainly from agriculture, where agriculture thanks to the fertile soil predominates. Outside the primary sector there are no other jobs in the village. Some of the working population commuters who work mainly in Yverdon. On Arnon was formerly a mill.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares at the foot of the Jura road from Vuiteboeuf by Fontaines- sur -Grandson. By Postbus course, which runs from Yverdon Novalles, the village is connected to the public transport network.

History

The first written mention of the village was already in 1179 under the name Novelli in a deed of the Cistercian abbey skin - Cret. 1403 appeared the spelling Novelles. The ownership changed during the Middle Ages several times. Part was under the rule Novalles Grandson, partly that of Pittet. Later the place came to the lands of Montagne- le- Corbe in the Bailiwick Grandson, which was under the general rule of Bern and Fribourg. After the collapse of the ancien régime Novalles belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud.
