Nové Spojení

Nové spojení ( German: New Connection ) is a virtually completed expansion of the railway junction Prague. It starts east of Prague city center and into the districts of Zizkov and Liben. Purpose of the connection is better to connect the main station to the north.

History

The train route from Prague to Dresden and Decin was not originally connected with the Prague main railway station. The moves in this direction went from the Masaryk train station. Thus, there was no direct connection from the direction of Decin to the routes that leave the Prague main railway station in the south. Through trains from Berlin to Vienna via Prague and Tábor could reach the main train station so either only indirectly, for example via Všetaty or partially two-time change of direction. With the bypass route opened in 1980 Holešovická přeložka a connection, direct trips from the direction of Decin created one hand, the main train station, on the other hand, enabled via the railway station Praha- Liben towards Pardubice. The long-distance trains from Dresden since then use this link. Most trains in the direction of Brno, Bratislava or Vienna did not go over Prague at the Prague Central Station, but only held in Praha- Holešovice station on the bypass route. This was due mainly to the low efficiency of the connection from the main station in direction Holešovice and Liben. The compound consisted of two single-track lines. From one of the two routes only part of the platforms of the main station could be reached, the other showed strong gradients on.

On 9 September 1999, the construction of a new, powerful connection with a development plan of the City of Prague has been decided.

On 22 March 2004 the prescribed works were awarded. The service contracts for construction were signed on April 12. On May 26, the tunnel bore and on 1 December 2005 began the work on roads and tram routes in the vicinity of the main train station ( flyovers ). In 2005 further transfers were completed on roads.

Train operation between Liben and main station was set on 10 December 2005. On December 12, drove the last train formally.

On 1 September 2008, the first major part of the connection was opened. Other parts were completed shortly thereafter.
